《城市。風景──如此細碎平凡》展示的是以鉛筆畫為核心的系列創作。城市指的是香港和澳門,風景是兩個城市的其中面貌。城市在流動,因為人流動。儘管擦身而過經常遺忘。城市充滿。畫面的形成,與形成中,因為人追尋牽動的一瞬間。我在其中遊走觀看,感覺,我用手機拍照,我坐在帆布前,我繪畫──密集的筆觸接觸布本,一瞬間的畫面變奏得有時間的厚度和重量。那是2020至2022年間疫情的時候。都是老舊東西小人小物,生活日常。風景不怎麼樣,實在平凡細碎。但有熟悉的氣味聲音質感。顏色。節奏。
2022年9月,另一批城市風景鉛筆畫在澳門紐曼樞機藝文館展出。其時港澳兩地並未開關。
City . Scenery – the Trivial and the Ordinary showcases a series of creations centered on graphite drawings. The “City” refers to Hong Kong and Macau, and the “Scenery” represents a facet of both cities. The city is in constant flux because people are always moving about. Yet, people often brush past and overlook their surroundings. While the cities are filled with all kinds of images, these images will be made when people are in pursuit of touching, fleeting moments. I wandered within the city. I observed. I took photos with my mobile phone during tender encounters. Then I sat in front of the canvas and drew – with the intensity of graphite strokes, those fleeting moments were imbued with depth and weight of time. This body of work was created during the pandemic in 2020 to 2022. The depictions capture some old, worn-out objects, mundane daily life and ordinary people. Indeed, the scenes are not particularly striking – they are truly ordinary and fragmented. Yet the smells, the sounds, the colours, the textures, as well as the rhythms are all deeply familiar.
In September 2022, another series of graphite drawings depicting city scenery was exhibited at the Cardinal Newman Macau Culture and Performing Arts Centre. At that time, both Hong Kong and Macau were still under lockdown.

Yuen-yi LO was trained in the fields of Communication Design and Fine Art respectively in Hong Kong, Italy and the UK. She adopts practice of drawing and visual ethnography as the core of her creation, writing scripts themed at arts and culture, feminism and oral history.
